Washington Township Schools plans to save ‘heritage tree’

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Washington Township Schools has submitted a plan to the city that would save a “heritage tree” at Eastwood Middle School.

Several people had come to a school board meeting in February to to ask the north-side district’s leaders to stop their construction plans because of the long-standing tree behind the school.

The plans call for changing traffic flow around the school, adding parking and addressing drainage and stormwater at the school at 4401 E. 62nd St. That’s between Allisonville Road and Binford Boulevard.

Some have estimated the tree could be about 200 years old.
