Wayne Township firefighters rescue brood of ducklings from storm drain

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A group of Wayne Township firefighters rescued a brood of ducklings from a storm drain Wednesday afternoon, Captain Michael Pruitt said. 

Captain Michael Pruitt with the Wayne Township Fire Department said employees of International Paper noticed a mama duck walking around a storm drain near 7536 Miles Drive aorund 2:00 p.m. Wednesday. The employees decided to call authorities when they noticed the mama duck was acting upset. 

Firefighters with Engine 83 responded and found the group of ducklings stuck in the storm drain.

The firefighters safely removed the ducklings from the drain and returned them to their mother.  

The department posted a video of the rescue on their Facebook page saying, “You know it’s spring when our firefighters are called into action for a a baby duck rescue. Our job is everything it’s quacked up to be.”
