WCHS student found with a firearm on school property

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The Warren Central High School student was arrested Tuesday afternoon on campus, according to a police report for bringing a gun to school.

School officials said the weapon was retrieved from a backpack without any injuries by a police officer. Officials also said that the student’s locker and belongings were searched an no ammunition was found.

The report lists the suspect as a 15-year-old boy.

Parents with children who attend WCHS were alerted about the incident with a recorded phone message.

Dennis Jarrett with MSD of Warren Township released the following statement:

Yesterday at Warren Central one of our students reported that another student displayed an unloaded weapon. Administrators, along with Warren Township police immediately secured the student in question. The unloaded weapon was found in the student’s backpack. Upon inspection of the student’s belongings and locker, no ammunition was found. Following due process the student was removed from the building. We applaud the actions of the student who notified administrators of the situation and our administrators and police officers who were able to maintain a safe and secure learning environment for our students.”
