What’s in a name: Zoo community picks name for orangutan baby
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The polls are closed and all the votes have been counted, the zoo has named the baby orangutan.
Facebook fans of the Indianapolis Zoo have named the new baby Mila, which means ‘dear one’ in Indonesian.
The voting began on April 21, after the zoo pre-selected five names for consideration.
According to the release, the baby and mother, Sirih, are still doing great. The baby orangutan has been introduced to many of the orangutans in the Center.
Mila holds on to her mom as they climb around and Sirih keeps Mila close.
Over 100,000 guests have seen mom and Mila in the past five weeks.
