Woman returns the favor after cop’s kind gesture
HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) – One local woman is using Facebook to spread some positive news about the Henrico County Police Department.
“I’m tired of seeing the bad cops,” Vondai Brown wrote in her post on Facebook, sharing a story of how one Henrico officer helped out her family when their car broke down on the side of the road.
Last Friday Angela Brown was stuck waiting on the side of the highway for a town truck after her mother’s car broke down.
“We stayed out there for like five hours waiting on a tow truck,” Brown recalled. “Henrico Police showed up and they asked us if we were OK. We said ‘yes, we are OK, we just need some cold water.’”
The responding officer, Hailee Lucero, made sure to get Brown and her nephew some water. She even called other officers, Sergeant Perry Lawton and Officer Tony Rose, so she wouldn’t have to leave Brown alone on the highway.
Now, Brown is using her bad day to spread an important message.
“All cops are not bad cops we do have good cops in the city,” Brown said.
A day after Brown’s post, Henrico County police posted the same picture on the department’s Facebook page with the caption, #MoreLove.
Henrico County Police said Officer Lucero just returned to full duty after serving an 18-month deployment as a reservist in the United States Navy.
“She has dedicated her life to serving the public and we are so pleased that her efforts were recognized today,” Lieutenant S. R. Mulé said.
Brown said she was so thankful for the act of kindness, that on Monday she wanted to pay it forward by donating a case of bottled water to the department.
“I just want to give back,” she said. “In case somebody else needs some cold water.”
With these hot temperatures, Henrico County Police said the water will definitely get put to good use.
