Woman walks 100 miles after donating kidney to lifelong friend

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – A woman from Indiana walked 100 miles this week for a good cause.

Karla Farmer Stouse is a kidney donor. She took the journey to fulfill a promise to a lifelong friend.

She began the trip in Logansport, where her kidney recipient lives. She walked 15 miles a day.

She wrapped up her journey Friday morning at St. Vincent Indianapolis Hospital, where she had donated her kidney last year to her longtime friend.

Her friend unfortunately later died.

But, Farmer Stouse said it was a humbling privilege to share the gift of life with someone else.

“Well, I’m a firm believer that small actions, if they’re doing with positive motivation, can accomplish a lot of good.”

Farmer Stouse said she walked to raise awareness about organ donation. She said she would do it again and even donate a kidney again if she could.
