All-Star aftermath: Indy ready for NBA’s biggest stage in 2021

CHICAGO (WISH) — Indianapolis, you are in luck. We witnessed NBA All-Star Weekend 2020 with our own eyes. Stood in its lines. Watched its dunks.

A few suggestions come to you free of charge, first and foremost: Put media day at Lucas Oil Stadium. The NBA is an international league with a growing number of fantastic international media members that enter the pool on All-Star Weekend. The more room, the better — for everyone involved.

The big question I needed an answer to before we left Chicago, I sought out a few experts to weigh in. Folks that really understand the fan experience and may be willing to make the drive to Indianapolis in 2021.

The first pair? Beverly, Illinois elementary school hoopsters Charlie Dunneback and Jack Smith who caught Saturday’s All-Star shootaround at Wintrust Arena. Their moms were also in the house to handle the chauffeuring.

Would you make the trip to Indianapolis next year for All-Star Weekend 2021?

“Yes, I think so,” Dunneback said.

That’s it. It’s official. 2021 is going to be a sellout!

We introduced you to the actual host committee over the weekend. Mel Raines, Rick Fuson, and Indy’s team are now back home revamping your favorite venues.

“We will use our buildings very differently from a Pacer game, a concert or the Big Ten basketball championships,” Raines said. “We really want to transform how the NBA thinks of the All-Star weekend. We will dress up downtown only as Indianapolis can do.”

Our state. Our game. Are you ready?

“It is going to be the best (NBA) All-Star Weekend ever,” Pacers first-time All-Star Domantas Sabonis said.

Let’s rock.
