Colts fear WR Campbell (foot) may be done for season

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Monday was jovial in Indianapolis following the Colts 28-point beat down of lowly now 1-5 Houston.

Carson Wentz continues to play the most error free football of any quarterback in the NFL.

Jonathan Taylor continues his tear which dates back to Week 11 of last season, with only Titans running back Derrick Henry posting more rushing yards over this span.

And the defense rebounded behind Darius Leonard’s seventh game with at least two takeaways of his career.

There was bad news, however, on Monday at the Colts Complex.

The team’s medical staff believe third-year wide receiver Parris Campbell may be done for the season with a foot injury sustained in the first quarter against the Texans.

Head Coach Frank Reich revealed on Monday that the injury occurred on Campbell’s 51-yard touchdown reception, his first trip to the end zone since Week 2 of 2019.

He’s gonna miss some time,” Reich said. “It’s heartbreaking for him, for us, and hate it for him. But I know he’s the kind of person and player that he’ll bounce back. It’s just an unfortunate break. We’ll see here as we go how long a period of time we’re talking about but it’s going to be a little bit.”

If this is the worst case, it would mark the third time in three years with the Colts that Campbell suffers a season-ending injury.

The 24-year-old’s brutal injury timeline:

  • September 2019: Abdominal (3 games).
  • November 2019: Fractured right hand (4 games).
  • December 2019: Broken foot (season-ending).
  • September 2020:  MCL/PCL (season-ending).
  • September 2021: Abdominal (1 game).
  • October 2021: Foot (potentially season-ending).

The update on Monday on T.Y. Hilton (quad) was somewhat positive.

Reich said the four-time pro bowl wide receiver is “doing well” and team doctors will monitor his status over the next 48 hours before another update will be provided.

Without Campbell, the Colts certainly are hopeful they will only be down one wide receiver for Sunday Night Football in San Francisco.
