Usher leaves lasting mark on Lucas Oil Stadium

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Gamedays at Lucas Oil Stadium are special for many reasons, but for those who’ve been seated in the lower bowl in the north endzone, the experience was likely altered by a special man, dressed in yellow, ushering in Indy’s fans.

Season ticket holder Janet Sherwood described taking her seat for Colts home games.

“Every time we walk in he greets us with a hug and a kiss on the cheek,” she said.

“He brings everybody together, and he parties — he dances during the game,” said Colts super fan Rick Stevens.

“It was just an instantaneous connection with him because he’s just so vibrant. I mean, his smile literally lights up in the entire place,” his wife, Joanie, added.

Kevin Martin, 58, was hired as a security officer for events around the Circle City, but found the perfect fit with the Horseshoe in Section 144.

“When it comes to the games, it’s not just about coming to the Colts game. It’s about seeing Kevin — ‘Where’s Kevin? Hey Kevin.’ So, over the years we’ve adopted him into our lives,” season ticket holder Candace Robison added. “He comes to our house for Christmas. We live in Key Largo, Florida, now, so he came there recently for a vacation with us.”

In June, as Martin was gearing up for his 11th season with the Colts, he was diagnosed with Stage 4 liver cancer.

Unfortunately, his bi-weekly chemotherapy treatments have kept him sidelined at the moment, but he is determined to get back to his home at Lucas Oil.

“There’s days where I don’t want to get up out of bed because my body is racked with pain and hurts so bad. But I am fighting so I can be here because I miss them,” Martin said.

“The people in 144, they taught me how to continue to live,” he added.

So, to the man that’s forever changed the cheers for the shoe, don’t forget — Colts nation is behind you!

Kevin’s friends from Section 144 have organized a GoFundMe fundraiser to help with his medical expenses and daily needs while he is unable to work gamedays.
