2021 Brickyard to take place on road course; IndyCar race to take place on same weekend

SPEEDWAY, Ind. (WISH) — 2021’s NASCAR race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway will take place on the venue’s road course.

It will be the first time the race won’t be held on the primary oval course.

Additionally, an NTT IndyCar event will take place on the road course on the same weekend.

The IndyCar event will take place on August 14 and the NASCAR race the following day.

IMS officials made the announcement on Wednesday morning.

“Our first NASCAR-INDYCAR weekend was a big success last July, with positive feedback from our loyal fans who watched the races on NBC and from the drivers, teams and participants involved,” IMS President J. Douglas Boles said in a statement. “The Xfinity Series’ debut on the IMS road course provided exactly the kind of thrilling action from the green to checkered flags that we anticipated, so we know the teams and drivers of the Cup Series will put on a great show as they turn left and right for the first time at IMS.

Ticket information will be released at a later date.
