Pike HS basketball coach steps down after 13 years

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Pike High School’s boys basketball coach announced his resignation Tuesday on Twitter.

Bill Zych has been the Pike team’s coach for the last 13 years. Over 36 years, he was head coach at Center Grove, Jay County, Perry Meridian, Rensselaer Central, Shelbyville and Winamac high schools.

“During my years at Pike I had a once in a lifetime opportunity to go to Beijing, China, to put on a Clinic for Nike Basketball. Basketball definitely makes the world smaller,” he said in his tweet.

Of his retirement from coaching, he said, “It will be tough as basketball has been a part of my life as far as I can remember.”

The Red Devils won six sectional championships and a Class 4A state finals appearance in 2012.
