Tech grad Trey Lyles in Sweet Sixteen

CLEVELAND (WISH) —  Notre Dame isn’t the only team with area ties in the NCAA Midwest Regional in Cleveland.

The top-ranked Kentucky Wildcats are the favorites to win the NCAA tournament and Arsenal Tech’s Trey Lyles has been a big part of the team’s run.

Last year’s Mr. Basketball says he’s hoping his undefeated team reaches the Final Four so he can play in front of friends and family.

“It’s been so much fun just being part of the team,” said Lyles. “Being on a team with this many great players has been awesome.”

How has his game changed in the year he’s been in Lexington?

“Defensively, I’ve been able to guard smaller guys, and I have more confidence offensively being able to go out and play the perimeter,” Lyles said.

Lyles and his team are aiming to become the first team since IU in 1976 to finish a perfect season.
