The second annual Indiana Fashion week is having their big finale show Saturday, and the theme is “The Roaring ’20s Reinvented.”
Raemia Higgins, wardrobe stylist/lead stylist for Indiana Fashion Week, Danelle French, makeup artist, and Christina Lockett, hairstylist, all joined us this morning to talk about the big event and give us a preview of what you can expect at the show.
“We are so excited to be having our Second Indiana Fashion Week founded by Denisha “Dlang” Ferguson. Our first show was in 2019, and we were gearing up to make the 2020 show grand, but due to the pandemic, we pushed it back a year,” Higgins says.
There has been a number of fashion events leading up to the big runway show this Saturday, August 21 at the historic Hilbert Circle Theatre. 8 designers will be competing in the Emerging Designer Competition in which the winner will receive training by fashion industry experts and a manufacturing scholarship valued to help launch and expand their brand!

Summer is here! After a year in sweatpants and casual clothes, its finally time to get our summer style back in full swing! Kiarra Logan, stylist, joined us to day with some style inspiration for two-piece sets. Here’s more from her:
I know it can seem overwhelming, and there will be times when you have to get ready last minute. So how do you get ready last minute and still look stylish without stressing? Easy, a two piece set!
Two piece sets are a must have in every closet because they don’t require much thought! You can just put them on and go. Easy! From skirts, to shorts, to pants, there is a two piece set waiting for you and your next event.
My clients have been in them non-stop this Spring and Summer, and the trend doesn’t seem to be ending anytime soon.
Here are some of my favorite styles:
Short Set:

This short set was worn on two of my favorite social media stars. First, Digital Creator Maria Shelton styled it open with a crossbody for a cool “on-the-go” mom look!
My next client is Mom Coach, Tierra Haynes and she styled it with a cute knot in the front and sneakers. This set is from ASOS and was featured on one of my style guides.

It also comes in Pink and I think both of these could be dressed up with heels.
Pant Sets:
I absolutely love stylish Pant-Sets! Especially in Satin. My client Karen wore this amazing Zara two piece set to a chic Brunch event.

The Satin look is one that you can easily transition from day to night. Check out this all black satin 3 piece suit that I wore to a formal wedding. It was so chic and stress free.
Linen pants set are also a great way to do the trend this summer, Maria looks amazing in this 3 piece coordinating set from ASOS!

This summer is all about bold and fun suit colors for the days we need a “bossy business vibe”. Here is Tierra again styled in a neon green suit that I sourced for her from Italy. I also got the same suit for myself in Pink!
Skirt Set:

Check out my client Liz all the way in Spain in her stylish 3 piece skirt set. I love the skirt sets so much because summer time is definitely about the legs!
Travel Sets:

I love to travel in sets because they are again, easy and comfortable! April styled this Emmy Lennon sweatsuit with a jean jacket and heels, but of course for travel sneakers would be the way to go!
If you need more summer set inspiration, check out my latest summer style list available on my website KiarraLooks.com and of course on Instagram @KiarraLooks.
It’s that time again, the 2021 design trends and color palettes are here! Danielle Myers, ASID, RID, Proprietor of Elle Designs, joined us today with the design and color forecast for 2021. Here’s more from her:
Color direction in Interior Design is heavily influenced by many sources and often starts on the runway in fashion design and the environment that we live in.
We then see it trickle into home interiors through paint colors, home furnishings and finish materials.
We heavily rely on paint manufactures to forecast what’s to come, they tend to be 12-18 months ahead of mainstream consumers in their color trend forecasting.
2021 Paint Colors of the Year
- PPG Paints is introducing 3 Paint Colors of 2021. Transcend PPG-1079-4, Misty Aqua PPG-1147-3, & Big Cypress PPG-1062-5. They reflect on wellbeing, sustainability and human connection. Moving past fear, transcending our limitations and aiming for a more balanced world by connecting with our fellow humans with compassion and kindness.
- Behr Paints has developed “The BEHR Color Trends 2021 Palette” composed of a curated selection of hues to create a desired mood that complements your style in any space. Calming, Subtle, Casual, Quiet, Optimistic, & Outdoors are all descriptive of this palette.
- Benjamin Moore has selected Aegan Teal 2136-40, creates natural harmony. Nourish the spirit with the comforting, sunbaked hues of the Color Trends 2021 palette. Celebrate the simple pleasures, the palette radiates warmth and wellbeing.
- Sherwin Williams has released their color, Urban Bronze SW 70-48. Tap into nature with a hue whose warmth and comfort breathe down-to-earth tranquility. Capturing that simple sophistication every space is searching for.
How are these colors selected and developed?
Paint companies gather 12+ months of data based on global travel influencers, looking at cultural shifts and consumer’s mindsets moving forward.
Looking through naturalistic environments start to formulate their color palettes.
This year, like none other, there is a need for calming environments in this unsettling time starting with paint on the walls.
How will you see these in the marketplace?
Fashion Apparel Items, Home Furnishings in all Capacities, Automotive Industries, Beauty and Cosmetic Products.
Are you someone that loves to incorporate trends into your home design? Some trends stick and some do not, a good trend is said to last 5-7 years, such as the grey paint color domination we still continue to see.
We like to say a little goes a long way. A bold trend can be infused sparingly into a space, allowing it to be inexpensive and easy to change up when it fades away.

All White for the Summer Shower:

A chic all white look is always a good idea. If you’re headed to a baby shower, and need some shopping tips, lets first start in your own closet. The classic white button up is a shirt that most of us have, and even more have it in a few variations. To make your button up look “less business” and “more casual”, try loosely cuffing the sleeves to your elbow and tying a knot in the front. Pair the shirt, with a nice white jean or trouser. If you can try a flare or wide leg. I am wearing Derek Lam pants paired with an H&M button up. For shoes, I recommend a simple strap white sandal to complete the look. Opt for gold accessories or feel inspired to mix up your metals. Remember for these type of events we want to leave the bigger bags at home and grab the smaller bags or clutches.
Brunch Style:

One of my favorite things to do is go to brunch. Brunch is always an experience, and certainly calls for a great outfit. One of my favorite brunch styles is skirts with sneakers. You can take your night time mini skirt (lets be honest, its been sitting in the closet for a while), and make it more daytime by pairing it with cool sneakers. It’s important to make sure you have a pair of stylish sneakers that can be dressed up. These are different than your walking or workout sneakers. If you’re looking to invest in a stylish pair try Cargo Street Wear located in Fountain Square or Foot Locker. I opted for a simple white t-shirt, which is also a closet staple.
Backyard BBQ:

By now, you may be ready to be social in the open air and attend a barbecue. Maintaining distance and wearing your mask are the most important BBQ tips, but a good outfit adds a spark to the day! For the Barbecue pull out your favorite band, college, or graphic Tee. I love graphic tees because they usually tell a story or remind us of something we love. Pair the tee with a fair of Levi denim shorts and stylish sunglasses. The thing I love most about this outfit is that it gives you a chance to shop sustainably. I typically find most of my graphic tees and shorts from Vintage shops. Some vintage shops I love on Instagram @limevintage , @issapopup, @washingtonave, @rekreatedthreads, and @zodiac.vintage.
Saturday Shopping Day:

As stores reopen and we begin to venture out, we can’t forget our mask. I found this stylish mask at Cargo Street Wear and love that it makes me still feel stylish while wearing it. When I shop, I like easy and comfortable, which is why I chose this denim romper. One piece outfits are always a closet staple because of their “readiness” factor. I paired this denim jumpsuit with my favorite Jordan 1 sneakers by Los Angeles based designer Melody Ehsani. As I mentioned before, its important to have a pair of stylish weekend sneakers that mix comfort and style. For a shopping day, I recommend a small crossbody bag that will also give a fun pop of color.
Beach/Pool Day Look:

If you’re heading to the beach, lake, or pool, lets bring back the white button up, but this time its oversized. Long white tops always make for great beach cover ups. Try to find one in linen or a light weight fabric, such as this one from Nordstrom. Leave open or closed with your swimsuit underneath. This straw hat, purchased at Asos, quickly became one of my favorite summer accessories. If you need one quickly, Target always has a great variety. Pair with a stylish wicker bag or tote to complete your look. I opted for another sustainable vintage gem from Washington Ave. The great thing about Vintage is that you won’t see many others with it, so if you can give it a try! The skirt I am wearing for this segment is a vintage Theory skirt from “A Bomb Muvas Thrift Shop”, so trust me when I say vintage is always a good idea.

Often times, maternity clothes aren’t the most flattering or even convenient to wear. Valerie Nadi, designer & owner of the maternity fashion brand, Becoming Mama visited Indy Style today to show us what makes her clothes so different from others on the market. Here’s more from her:
Why Becoming Mama started:

During pregnancy I struggled to find attire that I was confident and comfortable in. Pre-pregnancy, I generally wore a size medium or large and also ran into issue with purchasing the largest size a maternity brand offered but it still not fitting. I counted down the days until I could wear my “old wardrobe” again. But like many mothers, I realized that it took time to fit into those outfits properly again, and breastfeeding made the majority of my wardrobe irrelevant. Beyond just having easy access for breastfeeding and pumping, I began to notice things like fabric choices — which weren’t good choices for baby spit-up, breast milk spills, or grimy kid fingers. I started hunting for things that would check all of the boxes I needed, until one day my husband encouraged me to make the clothing I was searching for.
What makes our tops different:

- Water-repellent, wrinkle-resistant, and stain resistant fabrics that are machine washable (I recently spilled balsamic vinegar on the white top before a meeting and it wiped off with just a tiny bit of hand soap and water!)
- Luxe metallic zippers offer decorative nursing access
- Transitional fit for pregnancy and postpartum using side zippers to create a loose or fitted look
- Made in the USA by a woman and minority-owned manufacturer (where workers earn fair wages)
- Inclusive sizing XS – 3X
- Quality and features mean you can sport this bump, to breastfeeding, and beyond — a great investment piece

Now that we’re able to leave the house a little bit more, you may be looking into planning the perfect summer date night, and it all starts with your outfit. Kiarra Logan, fashion stylist, Kiarra Looks has some style ideas perfect for the occasion. Here’s more from her:
Black and White Monochromatic Look:

Black and white looks are perfect for date night. They are always very chic and can be styled different ways. Try to incorporate a texture such as leather or lace when doing a black and white look. One of my favorite chic summer tanks is by NYC designer Hunter Scotto, and I paired it with a wide leg jean from Zara. Styling a basic white tee is also a great day for date night, especially if paired with a leather skort, skirt, or pants. You can dress up the white tee with a statement earring like the one I’m wearing from Shop Kn0ir.
Satin and Silk Tops:

If you’re looking to dress up your denim this summer, do it with a Satin or Silk top. I love these blouses because they are light, chic, and can be styled different ways. If I have an oversized one I usually tie it in a know right at my waist line. If you don’t have this style in your closet already, start with a local vintage or thrift store. I purchased this green gem from a online thrift store, Lime Vintage, as well as a few printed ones. Whether you are doing solid or print, make sure to pop your blouse with a fun heel. A local indy favorite for vintage is Zodiac Vintage in Fountain Square.
Printed Sets:

Printed Sets are perfect for date night because they require minimal effort. With the top and bottom matching its easy to just throw on and go. Of course you can wear them separately too, and personally I love to belt them as well. My favorite for this summer is this set from Shop Sugar Drip, a South Florida based boutique, and I paired it with a vintage belt from Washington Ave. Again, I am all for sustainable fashion when possible.
Dresses and Sneakers:

Lastly, we have dresses and sneakers. Dresses and sneakers is a date night dream come true! You get the girly/feminine, but the comfort of a sneaker. Now, there is a big difference in the “work out sneaker” and “date night” sneaker. Sneakers that we dress up tend be a little more chic and of course not overly worn in. One of my favorite go-tos for sneakers in Indy is Cargo Street Wear near fountain square. Last week one of my favorite designers Cushine dropped their collaboration with Target and I was able to get this green leopard print dress. I could not believe how lux this was from Target, but if you hurry I’m sure you can still find a few of the pieces locally.
Accessories for date night:

Accessories are definitely key for date night, and really add the extra touch. For bags, the most important style tip is knowing when to leave your big bags at home. Date nights are not for huge bags or totes. Make sure you opt for something small that just holds “the essentials”. Last summer I purchased a vintage straw bag from Vintage Store, Issa Pop Up, and I carried it on almost every night out. Little bags, big statement.

You don’t have to be famous to rock these trendy styles! Natalie Sexton, fashion & lifestyle expert shows us how you can try the latest summer outerwear looks your favorite celebrities are wearing for yourself. Here’s more from her:
Two major trends we are seeing straight from the celebs are modern raincoats & 80’s/90’s windbreakers!

This 80’s/90’s trend is back and better than ever! All of the fashion girls are wearing them all over Instagram. This classic item of fashion is starting to move past the trend category and into a staple must-have for your closet. You can either choose a bold color and really make a statement with your look or you can go simple with a more neutral black or blue to keep the look sporty but still classic. Given that these ‘90s jackets are so light and breathable, you can use them as your final layer on top of a sweater, a tank, and a tee-shirt combination. You can also tie it around your waist if you’re trying to keep in line with that ‘90s theme, because yes, this look is back in a big way.

Even though the temps are rising we still have our rainy days and cooler mornings & evenings that we need an extra layer for. Waterproof Outerwear doesn’t have to be frumpy or stiff. Look for metallics and pastels in lightweight fabric that won’t have you squeaking around! Choose a classic shape, don’t go too oversized or you can look like you are wearing a tent. Streamlined shapes that cinch or belt at the waist are functional, flattering and fashion forward.
Invest in your outerwear – technical fabrics, 100% waterproof, removable hoods and packable styles are ideal.
Choose a high quality fabric and a fit that you love! Don’t choose something too trendy if it’s not your style or comfort zone

The oversized trend is sticking around and make these lightweight outerwear pieces easy to transition into when the Fall rolls around because you can easily layer up underneath.
