Fighting for Medicare for all

WASHINGTON (Nexstar) –  Medicare for all! It’s-a slogan Vermont Sen.Bernie Sanders says he hopes Congress will turn into law.

The Democratic presidential hopeful says the idea could make health care affordable nationwide.

Sanders says Congress can overhaul America’s health care system by embracing his vision a major theme of his 2020 presidential campaign, “Health care is a human right. Not a privilege,” Sanders said.  

Sanders has not said how much his plan would cost. But the non-partisan committee for a responsible federal budget says it could cost taxpayers upwards of 28 trillion dollars.

A handful of senate democrats say they support Sanders’ plan among them fellow senator and 2020 presidential rival Kirsten Gillibrand. “The insurance industry wants to make money, they’re a for-profit industry, their goals are not aligned with ours,” Gillibrand said.

However, high profile Republicans including vice president mike pence says Republicans are united against the idea, “what Medicare for all really means is quality health care for none,” Pence said.

Florida Sen.Rick Scott says it’s clear to him that Democrats don’t have the answer, “they know Obamacare is a disaster, they don’t want to keep it, they want to move everyone to a Medicare program, which will kill private insurance in the country and will ruin Medicare,” Scott said.
