Hottest air of the year for Wednesday, storm chances ramp up

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — We cranked up the heat for your Tuesday with plentiful sunshine and breezy winds.

Tuesday night:

Expect a very warm evening with temperatures holding in the 80s through sunset. We cannot rule out a stray shower north before midnight.

Lows only bottom out in the upper 60s.

Wednesday:

Prepare for a hot day as we look to have our first 90° day of 2020. We will start dry, but showers and storms will then develop by the afternoon hours with the threat for isolated strong to severe storms. Showers and storms look to linger in the nighttime hours.

There is a Slight Risk for all of central Indiana with the primary threats being damaging wind gusts and large hail. Torrential downpours and frequent lightning will also be threats with any storm.

Thursday:

We will continue to track scattered showers and storms at times Thursday. Isolated strong storms are possible mainly south of interstate 70, and an isolated severe storm cannot be ruled out. There is a Marginal Risk for severe weather for the southern third of the state with the main threat being damaging winds.

Highs top out in the mid 80s.

8 Day Forecast:

Keep the rain gear handy as showers and storm chances will continue through Saturday morning. This will lead way to a dry, sunny, and warm weekend following the rain chances with high temperatures in the mid 80s. The above normal temperature trend looks to continue into next week.
