Near-record heat Thursday; relief moves in this weekend

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Temperatures could reach record levels Thursday afternoon. Much cooler temperatures will move in for the weekend.

Tonight:

Mainly clear, warm and humid. Overnight lows only dip to the lower 70s.

Thursday:

Another round of high heat. Expect mostly sunny to partly cloudy conditions through much of the day.  Highs should run into the lower 90s. Feels-like temperatures will likely be in the upper 90s and lower 100s.

The record high for Thursday is 94°(1940).

A spotty afternoon storm could be possible, but most areas should remain dry.
Friday:

It will be a day of change as a cold front moves through the area Friday afternoon. Showers and storms are likely through the afternoon and early evening hours before racing out of the state by mid to late evening.

There is a marginal risk for severe storms Friday afternoon. Large hail and damaging winds will be the main severe weather concerns.

Highs will hit the middle 80s before the rain moves in.

Weekend:

Big changes in the temperature department.  We’ve taken rain out of the forecast both Saturday and Sunday as it appears the cold front should sag south of the Ohio River on Friday night. In the wake of the boundary, much cooler temperatures will move in. Highs will only hit the lower to middle 70s this weekend.

8-day forecast:

Temperatures look to hold in the middle 70s to open the week, with scattered storm chances Monday and scattered to numerous rain and storm chances Tuesday. Another potent cold front may bring more of an autumn shot to the area by late week next week.
