Record warm start leads to hottest day of the year

Tara’s 8am Thursday forecast

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH)–This morning started with temperatures in the upper 70s. It was so warm we broke a record. The record low maximum temperature for today was 77 degrees set back in 1936. The mercury never dipped below 78 this morning.

It’s going to be incredibly hot and humid today. It’s going to be the hottest day of the week and also of the summer. So far this year we’ve seen the hottest day at 93 degrees on August 21st.

TODAY: Skies start off mostly cloudy all thanks to showers and storms that moved across Ohio. Eastern Indiana saw some rain this morning around Richmond. This complex will continue to fall apart and move farther southward. While this is giving us some clouds they will clear shortly after lunchtime. This is when temperatures will quickly climb.

An Excessive Heat Warning is in place across the entire state. Highs will be into the middle 90s. Forecast high of 96, the record is 98 set back in 1936. Feels like temperatures reach 100-110 later this afternoon. Be sure to use extra caution as your are outside this afternoon.

It’s going to be a bit breezy at times today. Winds will be out of the west and southwest and may gust near 20 miles per hour.

TONIGHT: It stays mild and muggy tonight. Lows fall into the middle and upper70s.

FRIDAY: We’re going to see one more hot day before relief heads this way. Highs climb to near 90 for the afternoon on Friday. We’ll see more clouds later in the afternoon. Heat indices will be in the middle 90s.

It’s going to be hot and humid for week 2 of high school football games. It looks like we’ll stay dry for those games too. However showers and thunderstorms move through late Friday night into early Saturday morning.

SATURDAY: We may see a few early morning showers Saturday, but we’ll dry out for the afternoon. It’s going to be much cooler and incredibly less humid! Highs stay in the lower 80s.

8DAY FORECAST: The end of the weekend looks great with highs in the lower 80s and some sunshine. Much of next week looks dry, less humid with temperatures at or slightly below normal.
