Snow and freezing rain possible Sunday

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A wintry mess slides into central Indiana to close out the weekend.

Today:

Clouds will continue to increase through the early morning hours.  By late morning, precipitation arrives in central Indiana.  We should see mostly snow during the midday hours, with a transition to a mixed bag, possibly freezing rain during the early to mid-afternoon hours. For southern counties, this will be a mostly rain event during the afternoon. Up north, snow will the primary threat.

Total accumulations should be less than1″ from Indy and points south. North of Indianapolis, we’re looking between 1″-2″.

Highs top out into the lower to middle 30s.

Tonight:

More precipitation rolls in this evening.  South of I-70 it’s mostly rain.  Around and north of I-70, it will likely be a wintry mix, with some light freezing rain possible.

Lows fall to the upper 20s and lower 30s.

Monday:

Steady precipitation for much of the morning. The concern will be the threat for freezing drizzle for the morning drive.  We should warm by mid-morning, allowing for a full transition to rain.  Rain will be consistent for much of the day.

Highs top out around 40°.

8 day forecast:

A flood watch will go into effect tonight through Tuesday morning.  With more rain on the way for Monday and Tuesday, to the tune of 1″-2″ of rainfall, expect more flooding issues.  We get a brief break from the rain on Wednesday, before a return of rain chances Thursday and Friday. Temperatures should remain above average for much of the extended forecast.
