Strong storms likely Monday with an early arctic blast looming

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Good Sunday evening, everyone! We stayed dry through the first half of the day, but rain has arrived. Better chances for strong to severe storms will move in late Monday…

We’ll hold on to scattered light to moderate rain through the rest of the evening and into the early overnight.

With a blanket of clouds, we’ll stay mild for the Monday morning drive with lows in the low to mid 40s in most areas.

Expect a mostly cloudy and breezy start to the work week with highs eventually topping out in the mid to upper 50s in most areas tomorrow afternoon.

While the morning drive will be dry, keep the umbrella handy for the evening commute as rain and strong storms start to slide our direction.

By 6-7 pm, rain showers and storms will begin to head our way.

By the late evening and early overnight hours, rain and storms will be fairly widespread.

Some storms tomorrow will be strong to severe, primarily along and south of the I-70 corridor. Damaging wind and hail will be a threat in any of the storms that become severe tomorrow.

The rain will move out early Tuesday and we’ll stay dry for the rest of the day.

Behind this next weathermaker, temperatures will gradually sink. We’ll end up only topping out in the mid to upper 30s in most spots Friday and Saturday.

We’ll continue our lull in the action Wednesday before an opportunity for some wintry weather heads our way through the second half of the work week.

The waaay too early look ahead to next weekend shows a cold, but dry Saturday and a second opportunity for wintry weather Sunday.

The big story is 8-10 days away, the possibility for our first big arctic blast of the season. Temperatures by Tuesday and Wednesday of next week could be 15-25° below average for this time of the year… Better find those winter coats if you haven’t already!
