Thunderstorms and snow showers moving in

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Good Sunday evening, everyone! We’ve seen a great end to the weekend so far, but that’s quickly changing as a major winter storm slides our way from the west.

Through the evening, we will remain mostly mild until about midnight.

Rain will arrive by dinner time and become fairly widespread by the late evening hours. A few rumbles of thunder are also possible as this strong storm system slides through.

We’ll catch a bit of a break with a dry slot into the early overnight, but winds will be gusty regardless of rain falling. Winds will gust to 25-30 mph or more into the morning commute.

The winds will quickly shift this evening, ushering in much colder air by daybreak. Overnight lows will plummet into the upper 20s and low 30s.

With the dropping temps, snowflakes will begin to mix in before daybreak but since we’ll be mostly on the warm-side of this storm, we will luckily miss out on the vast majority of the winter weather.

A light dusting is possible in central Indiana, but significant accumulation is likely to our northwest.

Through the day tomorrow, we’ll hold on to a few snow showers. Otherwise, expect a windy and cold day with highs just barely above the freezing point.

With clearing skies late Monday and a stiff north wind, you’ll want to bundle up for the Tuesday morning commute with overnight lows in the upper teens and wind chill values set to sink into the single digits.

High temps Tuesday will only reach the upper 20s with some sunshine.

This latest arctic blast will be short lived with temps set to rebound into the 50s again next weekend.

With the rising temps will come another weathermaker with rain as soon as late Thursday and Friday and better storm chances into next weekend.

The best days to get limbs and leaves picked up will be Tuesday and Wednesday though it will be bitter cold. We will have a decent rain chance just about each and every day past mid-week.
