INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Severe weather is striking central Indiana.

UPDATE: 10:38 p.m.

Pendleton Heights High School has been opened as a shelter for storm victims, says Madison County EMA director. 

Also, National Weather Service says the damage reported in Pendleton, including roofs off homes and downed power lines, may be from a tornado.

UPDATE: 10:20 p.m.

The tornado warning for Wayne County has been canceled. The WISH-TV viewing area is no longer under any storm or tornado warnings. 

UPDATE: 10:14 p.m.

A severe thunderstorm warning for Randolph County has been canceled.

UPDATE: 10:13 p.m.

The Randolph County Emergency Management Agency said the fire department is reporting trees and electrical lines down in area of Arba Pike at County Road 1000 South. A second report of possible straight-line wind damage came from near County Road 1050 South and Boundary Pike; signs were bent and there was tree damage.

UPDATE: 10:06 p.m.

The Salvation Army of Indiana tweets “We are ready for severe weather and prepared to respond as needed,” but provides no details on what it’s providing.

UPDATE: 10:03 p.m.:

The Jay County Sheriff said people should avoid the area of County Road 400 N by the Pennville Park, where a tree is blocking the roadway. Units are working to clear that area.

UPDATE: 10 p.m.:

A tornado warning has been issued for Wayne County until 10:30 p.m.

UPDATE: 9:55 p.m.:

Henry County EMA Director Ronald Huffman says that trees are down in Middletown.

UPDATE: 9:49 p.m.:

The tornado warning has expired for Adams, Jay and Wells counties.

UPDATE: 9:48 p.m.:

UPDATE: 9:47 p.m.:

The severe thunderstorm warning has expired for Hamilton and Tipton counties.

The severe thunderstorm warning for Randolph County is now until 10:15 p.m.

UPDATE: 9:46 p.m.:

More than 5,000 people are without power, according to Duke Energy. That includes almost 1,400 in Madison County and almost 1,800 in Howard County.

UPDATE: 9:40 p.m.:

A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for Randolph County until 10:15 p.m.

Tornado watch has been canceled for Boone, Carroll, Clinton and Howard counties.

Tornado watch has been extended for Delaware, Hamilton, Henry, Madison, Randolph and Tipton counties until midnight.

UPDATE: 9:29 p.m.:

Madison County EMA is currently working “house to house” in the Pendleton and Huntsville area.

UPDATE: 9:28 p.m.:

Grant County EMA Director Bruce Bender confirms tornado damage in Jalapa. No word on extent of damages or possible injuries.

The National Weather Service says in Somerset, in Grant County, damage was reported to several houses.

UPDATE: 9:22 p.m.:

The tornado warning for Henry County has expired.

The severe thunderstorm warning for Randolph County has been continued until 9:45 p.m.

Severe thunderstorm warnings has been issued for Delaware, Hamilton, Randolph and Tipton counties until 9:45 p.m.

UPDATE: 9:15 p.m.:

A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for Hamilton and Tipton counties until 9:45 p.m.

Twitter user Phillip Morgan shared this video. It was taken three miles north of Sweetser. Sweetser is in Grant County.

UPDATE: 9:12 p.m.:

A tornado watch has been continued for Boone, Carroll, Clinton, Delaware, Hamilton, Henry, Howard, Madison, Randolph and Tipton counties until 10 p.m.

The tornado watch has been canceled for Fountain, Montgomery, Tippecanoe and Warren counties.

UPDATE: 9:10 p.m.:

Duke Energy is reporting more than 3,500 outages across the state.

A trained spotter for the National Weather Service reports damage to a grain bin in Disko, in Miami county.

A severe thunderstorm warning has been continued for Blackford, Grant, Huntington and Wells counties until 9:15 p.m.

A tornado warning has been issued for Clinton and Tipton counties until 9:30 p.m.

A tornado warning has been issued for Wayne County until 9:30 p.m.

Duke Energy says that around 1,000 people are without power in Pendleton.

UPDATE: 8:57 p.m.:

Miami County EMA says two houses in Macy have been destroyed. No word on injuries.

UPDATE: 8:56 p.m.:

Madison County EMA says that Pendleton has “significant” damage.

News 8’s Sierra Hignite is on the way to survey damage.

UPDATE: 8:52 p.m.:

A tornado warning has been continued for Grant and Wells counties until 9:15 p.m.

Tornado warnings are also in effect for Carroll and Tippecanoe counties until 9 p.m.

UPDATE: 8:45 p.m.:

Tornado warnings have been extended until 9:15 p.m. for Clinton, Delaware and Henry counties.

A tornado warning for Madison County has expired.

Currently under tornado watch until 10 p.m.: Boone, Carroll, Clinton, Delaware, Fountain, Hamilton, Howard, Madison, Montgomery, Randolph, Tippecanoe, Tipton and Warren counties.

The National Storm Prediction Center has issued a tornado watch until 10 p.m. EDT for counties north of Indianapolis. 

The watch covers these Indiana counties: Adams, Allen, Blackford, Boone, Carroll, Cass, Clinton, De Kalb, Delaware, Fountain, Fulton, Huntington, Grant, Jay, Kosciusko, Lagrange, Hamilton, Howard, La Porte, Madison, Marshall, Miami, Montgomery, Noble, Pulaski, Randolph, St. Joseph, Starke, Steuben, Tippecanoe, Tipton, Wabash, Well, Warren, Whitley and White counties. (Several counties in northwestern Indiana were added about 6:40 p.m.)
