Wintry mix Friday, relatively quiet holiday weekend

Marcus’ 4 a.m. Friday forecast

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Wintry mess moves out Friday, quiet conditions ahead for much of the holiday weekend.

Friday:

Remnants of the Thursday weather system lingers, bringing a mix of rain and snow to much of the state. Any snowfall accumulations should be mainly limited to elevated surfaces, with some areas experiencing wet or at worst slushy roads. As we move into the afternoon and evening hours, the wintry mix becomes a bit more isolated. Highs should top out near 40° for most of central Indiana.

Weekend outlook:

Seasonably pleasant weather on tap to kick off the holiday weekend, with a mix of sun and clouds Saturday. Highs will top out in the mid 40s – almost 10° above average for this time of year.

Much of New Year’s Eve looks quiet. A weak boundary moving through during the afternoon and evening hours could squeeze out some light drizzle/flurries, but impact should be minimal.

New Year’s Day will be a quiet and colder day, with highs in the upper 30s.

8 day forecast

Quiet weather for much of the upcoming week. Temperatures will run close to the seasonal average through late week. With the exception of a few showers on Wednesday, most of the week will be quiet.
