Podcasting is a powerful and cost-effective tool for businesses looking to build their brand authority, grow their network and create community, and generate new customers. By creating content that resonates with your target market, you can build a dedicated audience of listeners who are eager to hear from you and share your message. Through guest appearances, you can also leverage podcasting to reach new audiences and establish yourself as a thought leader in your industry.
Launching a successful business podcast requires careful planning and execution. To create a podcast that resonates with your target audience, and that helps you achieve your marketing goals, it’s important to follow best practices for podcast creation and promotion. Here are some key best practices to keep in mind:
First, define your goals and target audience. In podcasting it is much better to have a smaller audience of all the right people than a large audience that’s wrong for your business. Before you start creating your podcast, know who you are targeting and establish the goals that will help you know if you are finding the right audience. Measuring the success and ROI of a podcasting strategy is important. This can be measured by downloads and engagement statistics as well as leads and feedback from listeners. This will help you create content that resonates with your potential customers and helps you achieve your desired outcomes.
Second, focus on the quality of your podcast. This means investing in both quality equipment and production as well as investing the time you need to create quality content. The quality of your podcast is a key factor in whether or not listeners will tune in. To create a professional-sounding podcast, it’s important to invest in good recording equipment and editing software. If you don’t have the skills or resources to produce a podcast in-house, consider outsourcing production to a professional agency. The All INdiana Podcast Network can help with your recording and production quality as well as give guidance on creating quality content.
Third, plan and prepare your content. Didn’t we just talk about content? Yes, but when connecting to your audience, content is that important. To create engaging and informative podcast episodes, planning and preparation is key. This includes researching topics, creating outlines, and scripting interviews or guest appearances. You should also consider the length of your episodes and how often you want to release new content.
Fourth, promote your podcast through multiple channels. After going to all the work to plan and execute a great podcast you will want to make sure as many people listen to it as you can get. To attract a dedicated audience of listeners, it’s important to promote your podcast through multiple channels. This includes social media, email marketing, and other marketing channels that reach your target audience. Working with other businesses or industry influencers is also a good way to help promote your podcast.
Finally, engage with your audience and listen to what they tell you. To improve your podcast and keep your listeners engaged, it’s important to collect feedback and engage with your audience. This includes encouraging listeners to leave reviews or ratings, responding to comments or questions, and soliciting feedback through surveys or other channels. When listeners engage with you they feel like they are a part of the show and become fans.
Launching a successful business podcast requires careful planning, quality production, engaging content, effective promotion, and ongoing engagement with your audience. By following these best practices, businesses can create a podcast that helps them achieve their marketing goals and connect with their target audience.

We’ve all heard about the exponential growth of podcasting. In 2019, nearly 275 million people listened to podcasts. There are currently over 460 million podcast listeners with more than 75 million unique podcast listeners each month according to Edison Research. That’s a lot of people that you could be connecting with to promote your business!
Podcasts are a great way to deliver content to your customers and potential customers while also sending traffic to your website. Because podcasts connect with listeners in a more personal way than other media it is a great way to get customers excited about your brand.
Although podcasts have been around for a while (the first podcast was released in February of 2004) it is growing in popularity as a means of communication for businesses as more and more people use them to get information on the go. You can engage your current customers directly by asking them questions and getting their opinions. But perhaps more importantly, it is an effective way to reach a new audience and engage with new customers. Podcasting is an excellent marketing strategy for businesses of all sizes. It is the perfect marketing strategy for any company that wants to create high-quality content in a more personalized manner.
Here are 3 Ways You Can Use Podcasting to Promote and Grow Your Business:
1. To Build Brand Authority
When it comes to building a successful business, establishing brand authority is crucial. Brand authority is the level of trust and credibility that your brand has in the eyes of your audience. The more authority your brand has, the more likely people are to trust and purchase from you.
Podcasting is an excellent way to build authority and credibility by showing that you walk-the-walk while you talk-the-talk. You can establish yourself as an expert in your field by providing quality, informative content regularly. By showing that you know what you’re talking about people are more likely to trust your opinion and advice, leading to more business growth opportunities.
Moreover, podcasting allows you to engage with your audience in a more personal way. Listeners often feel a deeper connection with the hosts of their favorite shows because they hear their voices, personalities, and stories. Podcasts can also help you get feedback from your audience and show that you care about their needs. As a result, businesses that produce podcasts can create a loyal fan base of listeners who are more likely to trust and recommend their brand.

By producing high-quality content that resonates with your audience, you can establish yourself as an expert in your field and create a loyal fan base that can help take your business to the next level.
2. To Grow Your Network and Create Community
Growing a dedicated audience of listeners is one of the biggest benefits of podcasting for businesses. Unlike other forms of marketing, podcasting allows you to create a loyal following of listeners who tune in to your show regularly and engage with your brand.
It’s important to create high-quality, engaging content that resonates with your audience. This means understanding who your audience is, what topics they’re interested in, and what type of content they prefer. By producing content that speaks directly to their needs and interests, you can create a connection with your listeners and build a community of fans who are eager to tune in to each episode.
Podcasting can also help you build your network by connecting with other experts in your field. By appearing as a guest on other shows or being interviewed by them, you can broaden your reach and increase your visibility. This can help you attract new clients, connect with other professionals, and grow your business.
3. To Generate New Customers
Podcasting is a great way to generate new customers and grow your business. You can reach a wider audience and build relationships with potential customers by creating engaging content. Focus on who you want to reach and serve them with information they will find helpful or interesting. People who listen to your podcast will get to know you and your business. Take advantage of this by building relationships with your listeners. Respond to comments and questions, offer exclusive deals, or content for podcast subscribers, and create a community around your show. Engaged listeners are more likely to share their experience with your show and help your message get to potential customers and clients who might not otherwise be aware of your business.
A podcast can be a powerful marketing tool for your business. Creating and distributing content targeted to your audience can grow that audience and build relationships with current and potential customers. Podcasts are relatively easy and inexpensive to produce, and they area a flexible way to deliver your marketing message in a way that connects directly with your audience. You can use podcasts to promote your products or services, share industry news and insights, or tell your brand story.
Podcasting can help you stand out in a crowded market. It can be difficult to get noticed with so many businesses fighting for attention. But by creating a podcast that showcases your expertise and personality, you can differentiate yourself from the competition and establish yourself as a thought leader in your industry.

Have you decided to take the plunge and jump into podcasting but not sure where to start? Starting a podcast isn’t difficult. There are over 5 million podcasts on Spotify alone. But it does take some planning to stand out from a crowd that big. We are approached often by would be podcasters who want to join the All INdiana Podcast Network. Some are very prepared, others, not as much. Here is a checklist of some of the things we talk about that you should do before you hit “record” to get your podcast started on the right foot.
🗹 Identify Your Why
As Stephen Covey famously said, “begin with the end in mind.” What do you hope to accomplish with your podcast? Do you have a message? Are you trying to build a brand? Maybe you’re just looking to hang out with friends and talk about your favorite stuff. Whatever your Why is, be clear about it before you start. Remember that your reason is your own. You don’t have to have the same goals as any other podcaster. You just need to know Why you’re doing it. You can’t know what success looks like for you if you don’t. And when you run into those times when you might think about quitting (and you probably will), knowing your Why can keep you going.
🗹 Identify Your Audience
One of the most important things you need to determine as a podcaster is who you are serving. Make no mistake, if you are not serving your audience, you will not have one. So who is your listener? Don’t make the mistake of thinking your podcast is for everyone, it isn’t (nor should it be). When defining your audience you should think about your niche. For some shows, finding the niche is easier than others, but everyone has one. Maybe you want to have a hobby podcast. Of course, you will want to more specific than just “hobbies”. Get more specific. Maybe the hobby will be painting. You’re getting closer but you can still get more specific. Keep asking yourself if there is another level you can dig down to. Once you find your niche you will have found your audience. And once you have identified them, never stop finding ways to serve them.
🗹 Plan Your Format
How you deliver your podcast is as important as who you podcast for. Will you be a solo show or will you have a co-host? Will it be a monologue or a discussion? Will you present your ideas in segments or dig into one topic deeply? You should have an idea of how long you want to go, as well. If you just open the mic and start talking, you are likely to keep rambling. Podcasts come in a wide variety of lengths. The most common length is 20-40 minutes but how long you go comes down to one thing, go as long as you need to and not one second longer. Whatever you decide, it’s important to be consistent. But remember it’s ok to change things as your podcast develops to keep making it better. Knowing how your podcast will flow will help you be better prepared for each episode from the start.
🗹 Plan how you will present your podcast
What people see when they find your podcast makes a huge difference in whether they will listen or not. Your first impression is the name of your podcast and your show’s artwork. They are the first indication the potential listener gets about who you are and what your show is about. Be as descriptive as possible when choosing your podcast’s name so everyone will know what to expect when they click “play.” Make sure you do your research to make sure someone else isn’t using your name already. You may think that your chosen is great name…until you find out that there are already 5 shows with that name. In fact, Spotify will not accept your podcast submission if it already has a show with the same title in its directory. Here is Apple’s advice on how to name your podcast:
“It’s important to have a clear, concise name for your podcast. Make your title specific. A show titled Our Community Bulletin is too vague to attract many subscribers, no matter how compelling the content.
Pay close attention to the title as Apple Podcasts uses this field for search.”
In the same way, the quality of your artwork implies the quality of your content. New listeners are 62% more likely to listen to a podcast if they like the cover art. Visually communicate what your podcast is about. Don’t use too many words. When people see your art it will probably be shrunk down on a phone screen so be sure it can be read at that size. And make sure you follow the recommended technical specs: 3000 x 3000 pixels, 72 dpi resolution, jpeg or png file, RGB colorspace.
This is by no means a comprehensive list but it’s a good place to start. I will be getting into each of these items and more in greater detail in upcoming articles.
