Man arrested after leading police on chase through Lawrence County

BEDFORD, Ind. (WISH) — A Bedford man was taken into custody after leading police on a pursuit through Lawrence County Tuesday.

A release from Indiana State Police says that on Tuesday afternoon, a state trooper attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a 2012 blue Hyundai, driven by 27-year-old Douglas Holbrook, for a traffic violation.

Holbrook refused to stop for officers, and led police on a short chase. Other troopers and officers with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office assisted and tried to de-escalate the chase.

One trooper deployed stop sticks, but Holbrook swerved around them. As a result, Holbrook hit a fence and a 2014 white Buick.

Holbrook was taken to IU Health Bedford for treatment of his injuries.

Officers later learned that Holbrook’s Hyundai had been stolen. Holbrook was also wanted on a warrant for possessing methamphetamine and marijuana, and resisting law enforcement.

Holbrook was released from the hospital, and was being held at the Lawrence County jail.

Along with the charges from the warrant, he is facing charges of resisting law enforcement and operating while intoxicated under a controlled substance.
