Indy has a new gourmet wing spot you have to try!

Chef Tia Harrison of Chef Tia & Co. and now, Chicken Scratch Indy joined us today to share more about her latest business venture.

She recently opened Chicken Scratch, a takeout restaurant with a focus on gourmet wings and fries.

It’s located at 5308 N Keystone Ave Indianapolis, Indiana 46220.

This weekend is the perfect time to support a local black-owned restaurant as “Dig In Day” is coming up on Saturday, November 6.

JJ Johnson, James Beard award-winning chef, TV personality and author joined us today to share more about this important initiative.

Restaurants are the cornerstone of many communities, introducing us to new flavors, tastes and trends.

And the pandemic has hit this industry harder than almost any other, especially those that are minority-owned, with 41% of Black-owned businesses shuttering during the pandemic.

As part of a five-year commitment started to drive $100 million in sales to Black-owned restaurants, Pepsi announced the first-ever “Dig In Day,” an initiative that encourages people to dine-in or order from a Black-owned restaurant.

By visiting people can enter a zip code and find a list of Black-owned restaurants in their area. Then after dining, people are asked to upload a copy of their receipt so their meal can be counted, the impact of supporting Black-owned restaurants can be measured and others can be inspired to follow suit.

Chef Tia & Co’s menu specializes in Cajun and Creole Cuisine, and they have a variety of other classic American dishes as well. Tia Harrison, chef/owner of Chef Tia & Co. Restaurant joined us today to show us how she makes those famous wings, her Fried Chicken Alfredo, and Shrimp Ettouffe. Here’s more from her:

Chef Tia Harrison has been in the food service industry for over 20 years, her background includes casual and fine dining. She attended Ivy Tech for Culinary Arts and has been cooking professionally since 2008. Chef Tia & Co was established in 2009, and the restaurant opened in September 2019.

When the pandemic first began the restaurant had to close for almost a month, but now they’re back and better!

Currently they’re taking online orders for curbside pickup, offering in-person carryout, and unconventional dine-in where you can eat your takeout order at a table in the restaurant.
