INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Another Alberta clipper weather system moved through Indiana on Sunday. Most areas saw a dusting to a quarter inch of light snow. The light snow will be ending by this evening. Watch out for slick spots as temperatures drop this evening and overnight.
Tonight: Partial clearing and very cold. Low 10.

Tuesday: Mostly sunny and much warmer. High 45.
Late this afternoon, the snow showers have ended north of Indianapolis and the skies are clearing. But, snow continued south of I-74

The area of snow showers moved into central Indiana a little after noon. Most areas received a quarter of an inch or less. Some spots could end up with a half-inch or so.

The snow will be moved out well before 10 p.m. Sunday. Then, skies will clear and temperatures will drop.

In areas that received a new covering of snow, temperatures will be down to single digits Monday morning.

Be sure to bundle up if you are headed out early Monday. Not real wind, just real cold.

We will finally see some sunshine, and we will need it, to warm temperatures to 32 by Monday afternoon.

8 Day Outlook: Unseasonably warm temperatures stick around until late Thursday. With the warm air, we will increase chances of rain showers Wednesday afternoon into Thursday morning. On Thursday afternoon, as colder air moves in, the precipitation may change to a little snow. Then, about-average temperatures will extend into next weekend: 20s overnight and highs in the 40s.

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Looks like all types of winter weather is coming our way with a midweek weather system.
The preliminary forecast is for precipitation to start as rain late Tuesday. Then, rain changes to a mix of rain, ice and snow Wednesday. Then snow continues through the day Thursday. Early indications are from 2-4 inches of snow in central Indiana with several inches more possible in northern Indiana.
Considering it is late January, it was another pleasant day to enjoy some fun outside, like ice skating at the rink in Carmel.

Expect about-average temperatures for us early Monday morning.

Decent weather is expected again Monday afternoon as temperatures will be above freezing by noon or so.

The satellite view shows not much going on in our area, but, way out to the southwest in New Mexico, a low-pressure area is getting organized. This is the system that will bring snow and ice to the Ohio Valley by midweek. Exact track of the storm “to be determined.”

For now, it appears the precipitation will start as rain late Tuesday.

By 2 p.m. Wednesday, an area of snow (blue) could form to the north of the rain (green). The whole area of precipitation will be shifting to the south. That means rain changing to snow for central Indiana. Some freezing rain and ice is also possible in the pink area.

By Thursday afternoon, the darker blue indicates the snow will be increasing and accumulating.

Finally, by Friday morning the winter weather system will be moving south and east out of Indiana.

A summary of forecast events: Precipitation starts as rain late Tuesday, changes to snow late Wednesday. the snow continued through Thursday evening. From 2-4 inches is the preliminary snowfall estimate. Several more inches are possible in northern Indiana. This all depends on the track of the low pressure area moving right along the Ohio River to our south. Any change in that track will significantly impact rain and snow areas.

8 Day Outlook: The Tuesday rain changes to a mix of rain and snow by Wednesday afternoon. There also is the possibility of freezing rain and ice. By Thursday morning, the wintry mix will change to all snow. Snow will continue through the evening Thursday. The big storm in the Southeast is sending a little bit of snow into Dayton, Cincinnati, Madison and Louisville. I do not expect it to get any farther into Indiana.

With a mixture of heavy rain, ice and wind, this storm will have a huge impact on travel the next day or so. Hopefully, you do not need to travel to the east or southeast.

The pink area is under a Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow. The light blue area is under a Winter Weather Advisory for less snow but still possible travel problems.

Relatively speaking, a relatively quiet weather pattern in central Indiana. there could be some snow showers Monday morning causing scattered slick spots. So be careful if you are headed out Monday morning.
