IMPD catches suspect after 3 attempted carjackings

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Surveillance video captures a vicious crime at a Marathon Gas Station near 34th Street and Moller Road.

In the video you can see a man as he tries to fill-up at the pump. Suddenly, you can see someone enter the frame with a bottle in hand. The unknown man demands the keys from the customer.

A foot chase begins after the man says no, and when the victim appears to increase his lead, the suspect hits the man in the head with a bottle.

“Why can’t I go to the gas station without worrying if someone is trying to take my stuff,” said Stephen Williams, a customer as he tried to get gas. “It’s scary.”

The gas station owner says several crimes have unfolded near his store. He has kept names of suspects, still photos and filed no trespassing orders for those near his store.

“We take videos, we take photos, we try to save everything we can,” said the owner of the gas station, Lovepreet Randhawa.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department arrived to the scene and determined there were three attempted carjackings near 34th Street and Moller Road, and on the third attempt police arrested a 16-year-old boy.

It is unclear if the teen is connected to all three carjackings.

24-Hour News 8 talked to one of the victims, but he declined to talk on camera, as he is recovering from being struck in the head with a bottle.
