Marion County bar owners prepare for weekend with 25% indoor capacity

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — This weekend will be the first in a while that Marion County bar owners can welcome people back for a full weekend.

Curtis McGaha didn’t want to go on camera but said he’s ready to welcome people back to his Mass Ave Cultural District bar called Tini. It has been open since Tuesday, and he says they’re taking things very seriously. He told News 8 they’ll have someone at the door checking temperatures. Masks will be required, and hand sanitizer will be available on the tables. McGaha also told News 8 that contact information of people who enter will be kept on file for contact tracing.

Last week, Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett cited the city’s progress in lowering COVID-19 cases as the reason to allow the reopenings.

It’s important to note that indoors capacity will be 25% of normal. Outdoors seating can reopen at 50% capacity

Next door at Chatham Tap, owner Daniel Jones told News 8 that Marion County’s easing of business restrictions is a step in the right direction.

“It’s a good sign,” Jones said. “Hopefully it continues that way, but I know we still have to be careful.”

Every business owner said that’s exactly what they’re doing: Being careful and taking all precautions.

The city said bar top seating is still prohibited, and people are asked to stay seated at a table while they are inside.
