What’s next for Butler Blue III after changing of collar ceremony?

Butler Blue III stops by Daybreak

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Butler Blue III passed his collar to his successor Butler Blue IV during a changing of the collar ceremony at Hinkle Fieldhouse Saturday night.

Butler Blue III, who is also known as Trip, has served as Butler University’s live mascot for eight years. He will be retiring at the end of the Spring semester. Butler Blue IV, also known as Blue, will be taking over his role.

Trip and his handler, Michael Kaltenmark, stopped by the Daybreak studios Sunday to talk about the historic ceremony and what’s next for the pair after retirement.

“It was a really cool moment, I thought I’d be a little bit more emotional, but I was really just focused on Trip and my family and making sure everything went without a hitch,” said Kaltenmark. “More than anything, just really proud of our live mascot program and to share that with my family and the fans, it was cool.”
