Neighbors hope for answers one week after Indy doctor murdered
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — People living in one neighborhood are hoping for answers just one week after an Indianapolis doctor was found murdered in his home.
It happened Nov. 20 in the Ballinshire Estates neighborhood. Dr. Kevin Rodgers was shot and killed.
24-Hour News 8 reached out to Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department on Monday for an update on the investigation. Police would not say anything abut a person of interest or a motive. Neighbors hope this could mean that police are one step closer to finding the person responsible.
One week has passed since the murder of the 61-year-old. The highly respected doctor and assistant lacrosse coach at Cathedral High School was found dead by his wife last week inside their home near Eagle Creek Reservoir.
“You know we’re concerned because, after all, he was our neighbor and to some people he was a friend,” said Robert Norris, who lives in the neighborhood.
Norris said he and other neighbors have been asking questions of their own about the investigation.
“Of course, we’re all asking have you heard anymore have you seen the news have you gone online stuff like that,” he said.
Norris said he and other neighbors are worried because they don’t know if this was an isolated incident.
“If it’s personal, it’s unfortunate, but why did it happen that way? We talked about what it would be but, if it’s robbery gone wrong, why would they shoot him other than they don’t want a witness,” he said.
Cathedral High School released a statement last week that could provide some insight as to what may have happened to Doctor Rodgers.
The school said in part: “He was killed in an apparent robbery attempt at their home.”
Police have not confirmed that piece of information with 24-Hour News 8.
“I understand why they’re not saying anything, but it makes us a little bit more edgy because a lot of homicides upfront they’ll say it was a robbery a break-in robbery-type thing, you know,” said June, who lives in the neighborhood.
June moved into the neighborhood about 10 years ago. She said she hopes surveillance cameras, if there are any on that block, may help police with the investigation. For now, she and others are being extra careful.
“We’re more careful at night and going out I have noticed more people are leaving lights on at night, which we try to do anyway because we do have crime watch in here,” she said.
24-Hour News 8 reached out to the Ballinshire Estates Homeowners Association but did not hear back Monday night.
