Police: Man in hours-long stand off may not face criminal charges

GREENWOOD, Ind. (WISH) – Authorities say a man involved in an over five-hour standoff with police may not face criminal charges.

The city’s assistant police chief tells 24-Hour News 8’s partners at the Daily Journal they are not sure if they will pursue charges, saying his mental treatment was more important right now.

Officers took the 67-year-old veteran to the Roudebush VA Medical Center in Indianapolis for treatment after the standoff on Monday.

Officials tell the paper they are not sure if they will pursue criminal charges. They said “this guy is a veteran, he’s having some issues, a lot of them, and some mental health treatment is the way to go.”

Police say the standoff started after the man fired shots from his front and backyards.

Officers say they sent gas into his house to make him come out peacefully.

No one was injured during the standoff.
