FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) – Fort Wayne police say they’ve arrested a robbery suspect after he fell into a river while fleeing from officers.
Police say the 23-year-old man was arrested Monday on charges of resisting law enforcement and being a felon in possession of a firearm. The (Fort Wayne) Journal Gazette reports the man’s vehicle matched the description of one seen in attempted robberies at Dollar General stores and a Subway restaurant.
According to police, officers spotted the suspect’s car, and he fled from a Burger King. Police say he reached for his waistband while running.
A police report says the suspect got stuck in bushes before falling into the St. Joseph River. According to the report, he got 20 feet downstream before he was fished out by officers.
