Potential homicide being investigated at Plainfield Correctional Facility

PLAINFIELD, Ind. (WISH) — The Plainfield Correctional Facility is investigating a potential homicide at the prison.

Superintendent Stanley Knight confirmed the death of 48-year-old inmate Curtis Cash. Cash died at Methodist Hospital on Wednesday.

Knight said Cash was found in his cell suffering from “respiratory distress” from an apparent altercation on Wednesday morning.

Cash was first taken to Hendricks County Hospital and then later to Methodist Hospital. He was pronounced dead at 1:13 p.m.

Cash, of Indianapolis, was serving a sentence for burglary out of Putnam County and was expected to be released in May of 2018.

The facility and Indiana State Police are investigating the incident as a potential homicide. An autopsy and toxicology test will be conducted.
