1 of 2 malnourished dogs dies after removed from home

The Muncie Animal Care and Services shelter said one of the two dogs removed from a Delaware County home last week has died.

Diesel was a light brown dog. Leaders of the shelter said Diesel and the other dog, Dozer, were severely malnourished when they were taken from the home in Eaton. They had been locked in a room that was infested with cockroaches and fleas.

The shelter said staff worked around the clock to try to keep Diesel alive. They said his last days were filled with love and care.

The shelter is still caring for Dozer.

A 22-year-old man and his 51-year-old father were each charged last week with one count of cruelty to an animal and booked into the Delaware County Jail. Both men have since been released.
