Man jailed after traffic stop leads to meth discovery
HOWE, Ind. (WANE) – A Michigan man was jailed in LaGrange County Thursday night after methamphetamine was found inside his vehicle.
According to the LaGrange County Sheriff’s Department a report said a deputy made a traffic stop on a vehicle around 11:30 p.m. Thursday on State Road 9 just south of Howe.
The driver, Travis Borgert, 35, Sturgis, displayed indicators of criminal activity. At that time, the deputy called for backup which included K-9 Officer Hunter.
Hunter conducted a “free air sniff” and indicated an odor of narcotics coming from inside the vehicle. A subsequent search found methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia in the vehicle and on Borgert.
Investigators said Borgert failed three field sobriety tests and was apparently under the influence of a controlled substance.
Borgert was jailed on initial charges of possession of methamphetamine, maintaining a common nuisance, operating a vehicle while intoxicated (refusal) and possession of paraphernalia.
The incident is under investigation.
