1 woman dead, another hurt after being struck by pickup near grocery

ANDERSON, Ind. (WISH) — One person died and another was seriously injured after being hit by a pickup truck near a grocery store in Anderson.

Three people were walking near the 1800 block of North Scatterfield Road, near a Pay Less Super Market, when two of them were struck by a pickup truck driven by 47-year-old Bryant Keesling around 7:45 p.m. Thursday, according to Major Joel Sandefur with Anderson Police Department.

Nancy Shaw, 50, was later declared dead while 29-year-old Melissa Spradlin was left seriously injured. The third person was not injured, Sandefur said.

Early investigations revealed that Keesling was traveling southbound on Scatterfield when he struck the two victims. He later told police that he did not see the victims before he hit them.

The driver of the pickup remained at the scene and was cooperating with police, Sandefur said. Officials later reported that alcohol was not a contributing factor in the crash and that criminal charges seemed unlikely.

A crash team was investigating Thursday night, and part of Scatterfield Road was expected to be shut down until approximately 10 p.m.
