2 injured after train hits car
CLINTON CO., Ind. (WLFI) – Clinton County deputies said that two people are lucky to be alive after their car was hit by a train Tuesday evening.
It all happened around 6:15 where a Norfolk Southern track crosses on County Road 380 East, just north of U.S. 421, almost three miles east of Frankfort High School.
Investigators say a car driving north was clipped by a train heading west and ended up in a ditch. Dep. Anitra McKinney believes the two people in the car were talking to each as they were coming back from the store and didn’t see or hear the 80-car train.
“They honk their horns, you can hear them from miles away,” said Dep. McKinney. “You really need to pay attention. There are stop signs out here. They are here for a reason. You need to come to a complete stop, check both ways. These people, I think they are very lucky today.”
A male passenger was able to get himself out of the car before emergency crews arrived. The female driver complained of rib pain so she was still in the vehicle.
Both were taken to the hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening. As of late Tuesday, their names have not been released.
