2 injured trying to evade ISP on I-65

JASPER COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) – Two people were injured after they drove off during a traffic stop Monday afternoon.

Troopers say a little after 3 p.m., a Hobart police officer stopped a car on Interstate 65 southbound near the State Road 114 exit at mile marker 215.

ISP says as the officer approached, the car sped off, exited, passing several cars on the shoulder of the ramp before losing control at the intersection and sliding broadside into a semi.

Both the driver, Keo Hardin, 23, and a passenger, Maurice McKinnis, 22, got out of the car and were found by the officer lying on the ground near the rear of the semi. Both men are from Markham, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago.

Hardin was airlifted to an Indianapolis hospital with internal injuries. McKinnis was treated and released from the Jasper County Hospital.

Troopers say criminal charges are pending.
