2014 motel murder, robbery lands man 98 year sentence
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — An Indianapolis man was sentenced to nearly a century behind bars in a murder case from 2014.
Eric Johnson was sentenced for murder, robbery, two counts of criminal confinement and carrying a handgun without a license, as a judge handed down a 98 year sentence.
Johnson was found guilty of the murder and robbery of Dustin Woods on Jan. 13 and was given a 98 year sentence on Friday.
Woods was shot in the head at the Regal 8 Hotel in the 6200 block of West Washington Street on Feb. 8, 2014 and would die the next day. Johnson was arrested shortly after the shooting.
Also charged in the case was Alejandro Mauricio. Mauricio was convicted in 2015 and sentenced to 35 years in prison. Mauricio prompted a SWAT standoff prior to his arrest that last two and a half hours.
Investigators said that the pair, armed with a handgun, entered the motel room of Woods and a friend, then used tape to bind their hands. After Johnson and Mauricio left, Woods followed them to the parking lot. Woods’ friend soon after saw Woods lying on the sidewalk suffering from a gunshot wound to the head.
