23-year-old man dies after west side gas station shooting

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A man has died after being shot on the west side of Indianapolis overnight.

Just before midnight late Thursday night, police were called to the Speedway gas station in the 6300 block of Rockville Road.

Officers arrived within three minutes and found 23-year-old Sy-Ayre Kyles of Indianapolis unresponsive in the driver’s seat of a vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Multiple witnesses told police a dark colored sedan left the scene westbound on Rockville Road. A surveillance camera captured the shooting, but police have not released suspect information.

This is the eighth person fatally shot in Indianapolis since Sunday. An IMPD officials said it’s the 140th homicide of the year.

“Our belief is most of the recent violence stems around narcotics and the control over the narcotics trade,” Major Richard Riddle said in a statement Friday. “We have also seen disagreements spill over to killings over minor social issues that were once solved by fist fights and non-violent intervention by other means. The issues explained above and community tips are the exact reason we have conducted several citywide sweeps to address the root causes of violence in our city. We will continue these efforts, but we need the community’s help to let us know of issues before they boil over to shootings or homicides.”Stay with WISHTV.com for updates.
