AG announces $400K grant to fund officers with more Narcan kits

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — More first responders will soon be able to get their hands on a drug capable of saving lives.

Indiana Attorney General Greg Zoeller presented a $400,000 grant Wednesday morning to fund training and increase access to Narcan.

Narcan is the most effective antidote to overdoses of heroin and prescription opiate drugs.

It works by reversing the effects opiates have on the body.

“It’s in every part of our society; it touches everybody personally,” Zoeller said of drug abuse. “If you don’t know somebody who’s got a problem, you probably got a friend who knows somebody, so it’s very close to so many people in our state. It has to be addressed by everybody.

The funds will be made available through the non-profit Overdose Lifeline organization.
