Arizona couple celebrating 80th anniversary
TUCSON, AZ (WISH) – A couple in Arizona is celebrating their 80th anniversary.
Jim Saunders, 99, and his wife Noni, 97, got married in 1936.
The two met on a blind date at a ballroom in Los Angeles. They said the cover to get in was 25 cents.
“I decided she was a cute little blonde and danced pretty good,” Jim Saunders, husband said.
A few months later the two got married in Noni’s mother’s living room. They were both still teenagers.
He said he’s surprised they are still together today, but not because they stopped loving each other.
“I never even thought I’d live this long at that time,” Saunders said.
Noni said just like any married couple, they still have their moments.
“I don’t get sick of you? Sometimes! That’s when we start the cocktail hour,” Noni, wife said.
Their advice for other couples is simple.
“Just listen to each other. If you start shouting at each other, neither one of you are listening,” Saunders said.CNN contributed to this report.
