PUTNAM COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) – An arrest warrant has been issued in connection to the shooting of a Cloverdale police officer.

According to the Indiana State Police, the warrant is for 48-year-old Jeffrey Hunter of Putnam County.

Police said the warrant is the result of an investigation of the Dec. 10 shooting of Cloverdale Police Officer Luke Brown.

The shooting occurred just after 4 p.m. Saturday in the 4000 block of East County Road 375 South near Greencastle.

Officials said that authorities arrived at the residence in response to an earlier theft at a Greencastle store.

Officers were then confronted at the front door by a man wielding a shotgun. The man discharged toward the officers, striking one in the chest. The officer that was struck returned fire, hitting the suspect in the torso.

The suspect was later identified as 48-year-old Jeffrey Hunter. He was transported to an Indianapolis hospital for treatment.  27-year-old Brown, was taken to a Terre Haute hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

The arrest warrant is for attempted murder, resisting law enforcement with a vehicle, battery and theft. Police say they anticipate the arrest of Hunter in the next few days with the conclusion of his medical treatment at an Indianapolis hospital.
