Bloomington police investigating child abduction

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (WISH) – Bloomington police say a child is safe after the child’s mother took her during a supervised visit.

According to police, officers were dispatched to the Monroe County Library around 5:30 p.m. Sunday, after reports the mother left the library with her child without permission.

The 17-year-old mother had been granted supervised visitation with her 5-month-old child. The two are both wards of the state.

Officers said they searched the area and were unable to find the pair.

Investigators said soon after, they received tips that the mother and child traveled to Indianapolis.

Indiana State Police, Lawrence Police Department and other agencies found the 17-year-old in the 4700 block of East 34th Street. After an interview, investigators said the mother told them the child was at a family friend’s house in the 8100 block of Schoen Drive in Lawrence.

Police said the child was found safe and unharmed.
