Boone County officers killed in line of duty remembered

LEBANON, Ind. (WISH) — Boone County officers killed in the line of duty were remembered on Monday with a special memorial service.

The Boone County Sheriff’s Office held the event outside the county courthouse Monday morning.

They honored four officers, including sheriff’s deputy Jacob Pickett, who was shot and killed in March 2018 during a chase.

Officers said Pickett’s death made this year’s ceremony even more significant.

“When we lost Jake, it added another name to our list, and unfortunately it makes it that much more personal because he worked with me. He worked with us, he was our friend, so honoring him and everyone else that left before us is very important for our grieving and healing process,” said Sheriff Michael Nielsen.

Officers also honored Sheriff John Peper, Trooper Richard Brown and Master Trooper Michael Greene.
