Monroe County extends mask mandate

Monroe County is displayed on the Indiana Department of Health Coronavirus Map on Oct. 27, 2021.

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (WISH) — Monroe County on Wednesday extended its mask mandate.

The Monroe County Health Department says the county commissioner decided to continue to require masks be worn when in indoor public spaces. The mandate had been set to expire Oct. 31. The mask mandate has been in place since Aug. 4.

The commission decided to keep the mask mandate in place until the county’s COVID-19 rate is fewer than 50 weekly cases per 100,000 people. That would put it in the blue category on the Indiana Department of Health Coronavirus Map. The county’s rate on Wednesday was 111 weekly cases per 100,000 people, putting the county in the yellow category on the map. The map is updated each Wednesday just before noon.
