IMPD said they spotted the suspects in a car in the complex. When officers approached the suspects gunfire was heard from inside the vehicle, according to IMPD.

Officers apprehended one suspect and found Michael Henderson, 21, deceased in the vehicle.

“This is hard for us because we didn’t anticipate dealing with individuals who refused to surrender,” said IMPD Chief Rick Hite. But, this is why we are out here. These areas we talk about are violent, these offenders are very violent and they are resisting law enforcement communication. We gave ample opportunity for the young man who was the passenger to leave the vehicle, which he did. But the driver stayed inside and shots were fired.”

A cause of death will be released following an autopsy by the Marion County Coroner.

The identity of the suspect who was arrested were not immediately released.

IMPD and the FBI are investigating the shooting. No officers were hurt during the shooting.  Anyone with information should contact IMPD Homicide Office at 317-327-3475.
