Victim found dead in vacant house is 9th Indianapolis criminal homicide in 2019

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Police are investigating a criminal homicide on the city’s near east side. 

Officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were called to the 900 block of North Oakland Avenue, near 10th and Rural streets, around 3 p.m. Sunday on a report of a deceased person inside an abandoned residence. 

Responding officers found an unresponsive male who was determined to be deceased at the scene. Detectives saw trauma on the male’s body and determined he was the victim of a homicide. 

Sgt. Jim Gillespie with IMPD confirmed on Sunday night that the man’s death was being investigated as a criminal homicide. According to police, it’s the 9th criminal homicide of 2019 in the city.

The identity of the victim had not been released on Sunday night.
