Dry weekend ahead but rain returns Monday

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Temperatures cool back into the 30s to kick off the last weekend of 2018.

Today:

Clouds will be the rule across central Indiana today, as colder temperatures grab ahold of the region.  Expect highs in the middle 30s, with only a few peeks of sunshine through the afternoon hours.

Tonight:

Skies will gradually clear, allowing for slight colder temperatures heading into the overnight hours.  Lows fall to the middle 20s.

Sunday:

Should be the best day out of the next several. Much more sunshine as our Saturday cloud deck gets mixed out. Temperatures should respond, topping out in the lower 40s.

Monday:

Wet day on tap across the entire region. Large upper level system moves in from the southwest, bringing widespread precipitation with it. While this event will primarily be rain, there is some concern of some light and brief freezing drizzle as the system moves in early Monday morning, especially for far northern counties.

Amounts won’t be significant, but could be enough to slow up any travel plans early Monday morning for areas north of Indianapolis.

The rest of the day looks soggy, with moderate, to at times heavy rain. Showers should exit the region late Monday night.

Rainfall amounts could range between 1″-2″, which is significant for this time of year. Some minor flooding could occur for areas that pick up on excessive rainfall.

8 day forecast:

2019 will start with relatively quiet conditions. Near normal temperatures with dry weather expected for Tuesday through Thursday. Temperatures may warm just a touch above average heading into next weekend.
