Fort Wayne denied $250,000 from county board for storm costs

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) – An Allen County agency has turned down the city of Fort Wayne’s request for $250,000 to help cover some of the costs from a late June wind storm.

The Allen County Solid Waste District took the action Tuesday. District Executive Director Tony Burrus says district policy requires a county state of emergency to be declared before distributing money for cleanup costs from a rainy day, but the county commissioners never made such a declaration.

Fort Wayne officials say the storm cost the city’s parks about $643,000.

City spokesman John Perlich says the district asked the city to explore other options to cover costs.
